This week I interviewed the school nurse, Mrs. Topa. She was asked how a day in her life typically goes. She arrives at and leaves school at the same time as the teachers. Throughout her day, the nurse generally does not have a plan for what she will do. As she says, “whatever walks through the door” is what she deals with. On any given day, there can be contract tracing, vision or hearing screenings, physicals, or even emergencies. She is also always there for students’ emotional well-being. Every day is different for Mrs. Topa, and she is always there if students need her.
